Kaizer
Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy says he is enjoying the training
sessions conducted by new coach Ernst Middendorp.
McCarthy, who formed a formidable partnership with skipper Patrick
Mabedi in the heart of the Amakhosi defence last season, is optimistic
that the Naturena side will continue their success in the upcoming
season under the German coach.
“I will do what ever Middendorp asks from me and give my best,” McCarthy
told Kick Off.
“Even though he is still new to us, what I have seen is that
he’s really a good and knowledgeable coach. Since he has been
around I have really had a good time at training,” he said.
The 28-year-old, who has 10 Bafana Bafana caps, says they are hoping
to get their season off on the right track by winning their pre-season
tournaments, such as the Vodacom Challenge and the Telkom Charity.
“We will have to take each game as it comes and it is very
important for us as a big team and the PSL champions to continue
winning trophies, starting with the pre-season tournaments,” added
McCarthy..

JOHANNESBURG,
June 28 (Reuters) - German coach Ernst Middendorp has been named
as the new coach of South African champions Kaizer Chiefs, signing
a two-year contract on Tuesday. He
replaces the veteran Romanian coach Ted Dumitru who has retired after
leading Chiefs to two league successive league titles. Middendorp,
who has previously worked in Ghana and Iran, is a former coach of
Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld. The
46-year-old will begin his new job with a pre-season tournament next
month, ahead of the start of the new South African season in August,
but will not get a chance to take his team into next year's African
Champions League. Chiefs
have been banned from competing in African club competition for the
next three years after withdrawing from this year's African Confederations
Cup. The
club cited a clash of fixtures with domestic commitments as they
made a dramatic come-from-behind run to win the premier league title.

As was announced by Kick Off on
31 May, Ernst Middendorp has been appointed as the new Kaizer Chiefs
coach for the upcoming season. The Amakhosi unveiled the German coach
on Tuesday at their Naturena base.
Middendorp turned down an offer from German side Armenia Bielefeld to sign a two-year deal with the Amakhosi.
The 46-year-old revealed that he has been in talks with the Castle Premiership champions since January this year.
The fiery German trainer is well known for his explosive nature and has a reputation for the occasional tantrum and shouting episode, which will jog memories for the Chiefs players of the coaching days of Muhsin Ertugral.
Middendorp will take over along with his long standing assistant Frank Eulberg, who also worked with Middendorp in Ghana and Iran.
